2022 Southampton County Hokie Meet and Greet

On March 31st, the Greensville/Southampton Hokie Club and Alumni Chapter hosted a meet and greet event at Indiantown Hunt Club in Southampton County. This event was intended to introduce the club to Hokies that were not aware or unfamiliar with the local chapter.

In 2019, the Greensville Hokie Club and Alumni Chapter decided to combine with the Southampton Chapter in hopes to gain more participation and involvement by the local Hokies in each county. A meet and greet had been in the works until ,in early 2020, COVID prevented the chapter from hosting any events. Over the course of the next two years, events would be planned but cancelled none the less due to spikes in local COVID cases. The chapter was finally able to host the long awaited event and it turned out to be a success.

Approximately 50 local Hokies attended to learn how they could become involved with the local chapter. Hors D’oeuvres and drinks were served for a social hour and then a brief meeting was help to express the interest the club has and wants from the Hokies in the county.

Then guest were treated to a talk by several former VT football players and former high school football coach, Wayne Cosby. The players talked about thier time and experiences in Blacksburg while Mr. Cosby talked about his coaching and how glad he was that he could positively influence so many young men through football.

The Greensville/Southampton Hokie Club and Alumni Chapter hope to soon host golf tournament fundraisers in each county as well as potentially hosting the annual Scholarship Dinner at alternating venues between the two counties with hopes of increasing participation from all Hokies nearby.
